CPQ Configuration Guide

CPQ, Margin Floors & Approval Chains

Protect seller profitability with automated CPQ guardrails. TackQuote lets you define target margin floors, rep discount ceilings, required BOM sub-assemblies, and multi-step executive approval chains.

1. Margin Floors & Discount Ceilings

Sales reps frequently offer unapproved discounts to close deals faster. TackQuote addresses this by introducing two hard boundaries per account category or rep role:

Target Margin Floor (e.g. 25%)

If a rep discounts a line item below the target margin floor, the quote automatically locks and requires Manager sign-off.

Absolute Floor (e.g. 15%)

Quotes below the absolute floor cannot be submitted under any circumstances without VP or C-Suite authorization.

2. Visual CPQ Bundle & BOM Constraints

For manufactured products and complex assemblies, base SKUs often require compatible sub-components:

  • Required Dependencies: Selecting SKU-A automatically adds SKU-B (e.g., Heavy Duty Enclosure requires Mounting Bracket Kit).
  • Exclusion Rules: Prevents incompatible options from co-existing on the same quote line.
  • Dynamic Accessory Calculations: Cable lengths and power supplies scale dynamically based on primary equipment quantities.

3. Automated Approval Chains

When a quote triggers a margin violation or exceeds rep delegation limits ($50k+ total value), TackQuote routes it to the designated approver matrix in real time via email and in-app notifications. Approvers can approve, reject, or request adjustments directly from their mobile device.
