How TackQuote connects with TaxCloud
Eliminate manual data entry, prevent shipping or pricing errors, and streamline B2B order execution.
TackQuote prices a quote by creating a TaxCloud cart — a cart IS the rate quote in TaxCloud's model — and writes the per-line tax it returns back onto the quote. The cart is deliberately never converted to an order: a quote is not a completed sale, and converting one would put an unsold transaction into your filing data. Both halves of the credential are yours, because they do different jobs: the API key authenticates and the connection ID selects which of your Custom API connections answers. There is no TackQuote TaxCloud account for tenants to borrow, so a quote is either priced against your own connection or not priced at all. Two contract details are handled explicitly rather than assumed, because either would silently corrupt the figure: amounts are sent as UNIT prices, since TaxCloud multiplies by quantity and a line total would double the tax; and a line's tax code is forwarded only when it is genuinely a numeric TIC, so anything else falls back to the default you chose when you set the connection up rather than to TIC 0 ("taxable in all 50 states"), which would over-collect on exempt goods like food, medicine and digital products.

A Cart, Never An Order
TackQuote only ever creates the cart TaxCloud uses to quote tax. Nothing about an unaccepted quote is converted into a transaction, so quoting cannot pollute your filing data.
Both Credential Halves Are Yours
The API key authenticates and the connection ID chooses which of your own Custom API connections answers. There is no platform account to fall back to, so tax is never calculated through someone else's connection.
Unit-Price Arithmetic
Line amounts are converted to unit prices before they are sent, because TaxCloud multiplies price by quantity. Sending a line total with quantity two would double the tax.
Your TIC Default, Not Ours
A numeric Taxability Information Code is forwarded as-is; anything else is omitted so your connection default applies. TackQuote never substitutes TIC 0, which would treat exempt goods as taxable everywhere.

4 steps to connect TaxCloud
The TaxCloud calculation path is built and tested. What is missing is the settings control that lets you choose it.
Not yet selectable
Settings → Tax currently offers Manual, Avalara and TaxJar only. TaxCloud credentials are accepted and stored by the backend, but until that screen is driven by the API you cannot make TaxCloud your active provider. This page describes what the connector does the moment you can.
Store your key and connection ID
Your v3 API key and the Custom API connection ID from your TaxCloud dashboard both go in Settings → Tax. The key is stored encrypted and never shown back to you in full.
Quote as normal
Tax is calculated as lines are added and recalculated when the quote or its addresses change. Each line carries the amount and rate TaxCloud returned for it.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about TaxCloud
Can I select TaxCloud in TackQuote today?
Not yet. The backend accepts and persists TaxCloud credentials and the calculation path is live and tested, but the Settings → Tax provider list is still hardcoded to Manual, Avalara and TaxJar. The remaining work is that screen, not the connector.
Does TackQuote file or remit my sales tax through TaxCloud?
No. This connector calculates tax on quotes and nothing else. Filing, remittance and registration stay in TaxCloud, which is where your returns and liability live.
What happens if TaxCloud cannot be reached, or the quote has no destination state and ZIP?
The quote is explicitly marked as having no tax provider and no tax is applied. TackQuote never substitutes an estimated percentage — a plausible-looking figure that no tax authority produced is far harder to catch than a visible gap. An empty breakdown from TaxCloud is different: that is an authoritative zero and is recorded as one.
