How TackQuote connects with TaxJar
Eliminate manual data entry, prevent shipping or pricing errors, and streamline B2B order execution.
TackQuote sends the quote's ship-from and ship-to addresses and its line amounts to TaxJar, and writes the returned rate onto each line. Your own TaxJar API token is used, stored encrypted per tenant, so calculation runs against your subscription and your nexus configuration. An empty tax breakdown from TaxJar is treated as an authoritative zero — genuinely no tax due — and is deliberately distinguished from a failed call, which produces an explicit "no tax provider" state instead of a number. That distinction matters: before this connector existed, selecting TaxJar in settings passed a connection test and then applied a fabricated flat rate to every quote, which is precisely the failure this design refuses to repeat.

Line-Level Rates
TaxJar responses are mapped back to the individual lines they priced, so a quote mixing taxable goods and exempt services is correct per line.
Zero Means Zero
An empty breakdown is recorded as no tax due, which is a real answer. It is never conflated with a provider that failed to answer at all.
Per-Tenant API Token
Your TaxJar token is encrypted at rest and never returned by any status endpoint — the settings screen shows only whether a token is configured and its last four characters.
No Fallback Percentage
If TaxJar cannot be reached the quote reports no tax provider rather than an estimate. The gap is visible to the seller instead of silently wrong.

Does this handle my TaxJar filings?
No. This connector calculates tax on quotes. AutoFile and reporting stay in TaxJar.
Can I run TaxJar and Avalara at the same time?
No — one tax provider is active per tenant, because two engines answering the same question could disagree and there would be no way to tell which figure a quote used. Switch providers in settings.
How do I know tax is actually being calculated?
A quote priced without a working provider is explicitly marked as having none, rather than showing zero tax that looks like a legitimate result.
